Maximus Racing was an F1 in Schools team created in late 2017 and carried out through to 2018. The team was set to compete in the Singapore World Finals in September 2018 but was unable to due to complications. The team later disbanded and reformed under a new name, Mercury Racing, and attended the F1 in Schools World Finals 2019 in Abu Dhabi.
The logo was designed to be both modern yet classic. This was achieved by taking inspiration from the Lamborghini and Ferrari logos, where they each used an animal of significance as the subject of their logo. The team wanted Lupa, Rome's symbol, to be featured on the logo to maintain a strong connection between the team and the city in which it was founded.
The giallo-rosso of Rome was modified and used as the team's official colours to strengthen the link between the city and team. These shades were used since they seemed to simultaneously evoke passion and class best.
